Let's put our ideas to work.

In this community, you can submit ideas, vote on existing ideas, or add comments.

To submit an idea, please click the Submit New Idea button at the top of the navigation sidebar. You will then be asked to add a title and choose a campaign for the new idea. You will also have the option to add tags to the idea. To vote on an idea, simply click the up or down arrows to the right of the idea title/description. And to add a comment, click in the box below the idea.

If you would like to see all ideas created with a specific tag, you can click on the word or phrase via the tagcloud in the navigation sidebar area under "What we're discussing". You can also view ideas sorted by Campaigns from the right navigation area. To return to this page, click the All Ideas link.

Subtract blank chromatogram

It would be great to subtract a blank chromatogram from a regular chromatogram. Sometimes, heavy background signals convolute the ineteresting chromatographic data, hence it would be great to remove them automatically. Workflow: Subtract the chromatograms scan by scan. The method should be applicable on MSD as well as FID chromatograms. Take each scan and subtract the intensity of its ions from the intensities of the ...more »

R Integration

It would be great to have the possibility to run commands/calculations using R within OpenChrom. A flexible editor/bridge to R would be great and thus would increase the possibilities and the flexibility of OpenChrom.

A good example for an integration of R could be Bio7:

Scripting Environment for Chromatograms

It would be great to have scripting capabilities within OpenChrom. Users shall be able to write their own scripts to evaluate chromatograms. The scripting editor should support: * Sytax highlighting * Auto-completion * Error display A possible candiate for the integration could be the EASE project: https://projects.eclipse.org/proposals/eclipse-advanced-scripting-environment-ease If possible, several languages shall ...more »

Chromatogram Alignment

Chromatograms of the same or similar samples taken on different days may be slightly skewed in comparison to one another, and aligning these chromatograms would allow us to more easily and efficiently analyze them.

Working with peaks of selected ions

In single-quadrupole mass spectrometry for example, it is a common task to detect and integrate peaks of single ions for quantification and qualification. Therefore, it might be very useful to have that functionality in OpenChrom without having to remove every ion apart from the one of interest manually.

Massbank integration, NIST-DB alternative

I guess this is kind of an idea, where it *just* needs a couple of skilled programmers and a few weeks of full work load..

What about a 'massbank' connector as an alternative for the commercial NIST-DB connector?

laser scanning 3D spectral identication algorithm

Have a sample identification mode and database search to identify specific micro-organism which has spectral signature in database or feature to add new 3D spectral-algorithm identifier.

Good feature to test food for contamination or bio-terror alert.

Temperature matching / modifying algorithm

If temperature of current /measured/sampled spectral-temerature does not match corresponding spectra in database then a temperature shift algorithm can find the stored corresponding spectra according to its temperature if they do not match.

De-skewing mass spectra of a chromatogram

Quadrupole instruments show a skewing effect at the beginning and the end of each peak. It would be great to compensate this skewing by applying a filter.

The skew depends on the scan direction of the instrument. Some instruments scan high to low, some low to high. Preferably, the scan direction shall be detected automatically.

Hydrocarbon Analysis

When analysing hydrocarbons, to enable the production of simulated distillation analysis, the chromatogram is sliced into areas of fixed time width intervals that allows for the cumulative area (mass) fraction to be calculated at certain points (i.e. every 5%. This could be a useful addition to OpenChrom, although it would probable have a very niche use
